Remembering & Forgetting...

Amma & Nanna has very definite impression upon me that I forget every thing!!! It is a very normal dialogue from them that “ Pandu ki em gurthu undavu… Sekhar ayithee em marachipoodu…” (Means Pandu will forget every thing but Sekhar doesn’t) … The common complaints against me are
1) Will not switch off lights & Fans when ever I leave room.
2) Will not close doors properly while going out.
3) After bath towel, remains on bed for hours together
4) Will forget where I keep bike keys …… etc.
Though this seems not a big trouble, some times forgetting small things makes a lot … I have first hand experience of how badly it effects…

In flip… I certainly feel proud some times about what I memorize… I can still goto Telugu teacher’s house which I visited only once in 5th class… I can retain 90% of the phone numbers of my classmates … I can call a person by name with whom I had dinner only once, about a year ago! Can proudly say story of a movie which I watched 15 years back! Can recollect answers to all questions in
Kashmeera Darshanam from 6th class textbook. Can effortlessly deliver Vemana sathakam told by dad at bed time when I am 6. Can tell “seethamma vakita sirimalle chettu” poem from 1st class text book without missing a single word. Can tell the score of Vinod Kambli in 96 WC against Zimbabwe!!

It is quite surprising for me too… that how I remember and how I forget! I tired understanding this by applying the results of experiment of conditional reflexes done by Ivan Pavlov on Dogs (this is also from the Science text book of 7th class :D) But couldn’t conclude anything :P

May be if I find why it happens I might be in race for Nobel!!! At least if I know that I am not the only one to whom it happens like this then I’ll satisfy my ego.

i guess it depends on what you like and what you think is important. If you like something and you think it is important you would never forget it. For eg, you liked the course work in you school so you still have it at the tip of your tongue.

However, you really don't care much abt the bike keys, abt the petty electricity bill (petty? considering the kind of income you have ). So, u forget it. Assume if 1 kWattHour of electricity would have cost 10k INR, i am sure you would have turned it off even before you leave the room ;)
